The Origins of Bohemian Coffee Culture
Suchitra currently holds the baton, for her family owned coffee plantation, where she has successfully created a niche of her own in the coffee culture in Mumbai. She is a fourth generation planter from Coorg and calls her brand The Yellow Bohemian coffee.
Our Story
A story that began in 1937
Just when you think the only thing that your grandparents gave you was their brown skin, arthritis and a stack of old Jeffrey Archer novels, you realise that you are now the keeper of acres of coffee plantation. That’s the funny thing about inheritance.
Our Family Home
At first, it’s hard knowing how to react to inheriting the very land where one spent carefree childhood summers climbing haystacks and playing with farm animals. But, once it sinks in, the joy is insurmountable.
Coffee Saplings at Alankar Estate
Alankar estate houses our coffee plants which are shaded amidst thickly forested land, alongside Sandalwood trees, Rose wood trees, Silver Oak trees and Teak wood trees on gentle grassy slopes.
The Ultimate Blend
A few summers were spent experimenting with beans, crafting and roasting coffee in the estate kitchen that gave birth to a blend I personally favour. It consists of large grade AA Arabica beans, roasted to create a dark and full bodied taste.
Finest Engineering First
The whole beans are roasted to perfection by the finest machines of German engineering called ‘Probat Roasters’, because the secret to a great cup of coffee mainly lies in its roasting.
The Coffee Bean
The Arabica plants are mature and sturdy, encouraged by the extremely fertile soil of the Coorg valley. We are certified by the Rainforest Alliance and make sure our crop is free of chemical pest deterrents.

Product Safety
Mycotoxin and Acrylamide are two known toxins, commonly found in roasted coffees that adversely affect the nervous system and cause harm to the body. The Yellow Bohemian Coffee keeps food safety as its top priority and makes it a constant practice to check in yearly with pharma labs.
We can therefore proudly say that our coffee is free of both toxins.
The joy of being fortunate enough to grow the world’s most loved beverage cannot be expressed in words. It implies being responsible for something that starts off as a small seed, nurturing it each day for months and years, until it yields into something as delicious as coffee.
The process is a labour intensive one that comes with its own set of adversities. The ecosystem’s moody weather coupled with the behaviour of natural predators adds a hint of complexity to our ways of being.
From plant to product, several steps conjure up its delicate intricacies, adding to its value. Grown on shaded slopes amongst other fruit bearing trees such as Orange, Passion fruit and Pomegranate, gives it delicious endnotes, all organically orchestrated adding to its unique crafted taste.
It grows among Silver oak, Sandal wood, Rose wood trees and the surrounding fruit trees such as orange, passion fruit and berries, add their own unique flavour to the coffee through cross pollination that occurs naturally.
The Yellow Bohemian Coffee is available for direct purchase to Cafes, Resorts, Hotels, Cinemas, Offices other such public enterprises. It is currently being served in a few Cafes in Mumbai and Lonavala.
